Credit Card Debt Negotiation Settlements
Getting out of debt can be a difficult process especially when you consider the amount of money you may owe after penalties and fees for missing payments. For many people in this situation it can feel like you are sinking in quicksand and your struggles to get out seem to only make sink faster than before. One great option for combating your debt situation is credit card debt negotiation settlements. These are when you negotiate with your particular lender to pay a reduced amount in return for voiding you debt. Here is why this can work.
First and foremost all credit card companies are businesses and the reason a business exists is to make money. So if they are not able to make a profit off of the money you borrowed they are losing out. This puts you in a place of power when negotiating your debt. So don’t be afraid to initiate negotiations for settling your debt.
The next thing to know is that you have to get everything in writing. Let’s face it customer service on the phone is for lack of a better description, less than effective. This makes it important to try to do most of your communications either by letter or email. This is important because it gives you documentation in case the credit card company tries to take you to court for some obscure reason. Having evidence that you got a settlement will put these sort of out the blue attacks to bed and make it more likely that your credit card debt negotiation settlements will be successful.
Finally know the time limit. Many people say that the longer you wait the better your chance of paying a very affordable settlement. This is only true up to a point. The real limit is 3 years. After 3 years a credit company can and likely will take you to court and try to get your wages garnished or some other legal action to get their money. At the same time if you do have a summons to go to court show up and have your documentation. In many cases simply doing this can stave off a really brutal court decision about your debt.
